Martin Sheen in Film About the Camino
A movie starring Martin Sheen and filmed along the French route of the Camino de Santiago is currently in post-production. You can watch the trailer for the film, titled The Way, by heading over to the official website. The only embeddable YouTube trailer I could find was dubbed over in Spanish:
Although not the best movie title for easy internet searching (try Googling “The Way”), I’m stoked to see how this turns out. The trailer’s a little cheesy, but in the hands of a fine actor in Sheen, I’m sure it has a chance to be a poignant film. Honestly, I just can’t wait to point at the screen and yell “I remember that place!” or “A pilgrim wouldn’t say that!” or “Don’t eat the garlic soup!”
The Way is a ways away from finding its way toward theaters, but all signs point to a late 2010 release. Will Sheen’s film spark more mainstream interest in the Camino stateside? There’s only one The Way to find out…

I’m a book promoter, based in the UK yet working internationally. Amazing to learn today about THE WAY as we are literally just about to promote Call of the Camino – Myths, Legends and Pilgrim Stories on the Way to Santiago de Compostela (Findhorn Press – November 2010) by Robert Mullen. I’ve long had a thought that I would like to walk the Camino (OK, part of it would be great) and now having read Bob’s book I definitely have the itch to make it happen in my life! I will enjoy watching this trailer next and will look forward to seeing the movie, now that I know so much more about the Camino (and the huge big deal it is for people walking it AND the even bigger deal of how it affects people after..) now that I have read Call of the Camino! This time has year I had never even seen a book about the Camino and now this time this year I am working on promoting three. I think there is a definite message here for me!

Its a great walk and delighted they’ve made a movie. On http://www.500m.wordpress.com you’ll see our walk was more fun than anything else but its amazing how good a walk can be for you. The Proclaimers wrote the song 500 miles and 500 miles later we decided we could walk 500 more. We’re going back again in September
I’ve seen the movie. Emilio showed it at the 2011 FOCUS conferences. It’s a fantastic movie. Can’t wait to see it again in september.
